A HOTEL TO BE BUILT ...
in Dillsboro will open new doors for the tourism industry in Jackson County. Local business leaders will join directors of hospitality education programs from two area colleges for a ground breaking at the site of the new Best Western River Escape Inn and Suites in Dillsboro at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. The planned 66-room hotel will include 27 suites as well as meeting facilities. Best Western plans to form a partnership with area colleges so the new hotel can serve as a hospitality industry learning lab for college students.

American Cancer Society team fund-raisers are in the final week, said Mary Moody-Bumgarner, Relay For Life chairman. Anyone who still has money to turn in should do so as soon as possible to Christy Bryson or Tiffany Wilson at the Justice Center. Moody-Bumgarner expressed thanks to all teams, contributors and donors for supporting Relay For Life.

District is accepting applications or the Senior Community Service Employment Program for Jackson and Macon county residents who meet age and income limits. Positions offered are primarily for outdoor recreation area maintenance (cleaning, trash removal and mowing) but may include other duties if qualified.
