ALAN'S ON MAIN ...

Alan's patio held a grand opening last week for its patio dining area. From left are Beth Denmon of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Chamber board member Linda Haggard, restaurant owner/chef Alan Gould, Karen Connor, assistant manager of Alan's, and SPIR Director Richard McHargue. Alan's patio can seat 20. The restaurant offers a full menu as well as daily seasonal specials and a varied wine selection. Alan's is available for private parties and special events. Lunch is served Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and dinner is from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Dinner reservations are suggested and can be placed at 631-4545.

THE SYLVA HERALD ...

had some problems with delivery last week. Some of our in-county papers were accidentally sent to Charlotte from Asheville, which meant some of our local subscribers got their papers late. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.


EDDIE DEITZ ...

and Mountain Gospel will sing at Zion Hill Baptist Church Saturday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. after a poor man's supper that will begin at 5 p.m. The event is a fund-raiser for the a new parking lot for the church.


THE SYLVA-WEBSTER ...

Class of 1971 will hold a reunion at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Western Carolina University picnic area. Families are invited. Those attending are asked to bring a covered-dish For more information, call or leave a message at 586-2685 or 586-5151.

THE NEWCOMERS CLUB ...

held its annual Spring luncheon on Saturday, May 5, at the Webster Baptist Church. The group has four ongoing activities. The Out-to-Lunch-Bunch meets the first Thursday of the month at a local restaurant. The book club meets the first Tuesday in the evening at City Lights. The Meet-and-Eat is a monthly couples' dinner, and the Gourmet Lunch group has small formal gatherings. The club welcomes new members, both recently arrived as well as established area residents. THE GOLDEN AGE ...

Senior Center would like to invite everyone to "A Showcase of Senior Activities" on Saturday, May 19, at the Golden Age (located next to Sylva swimming pool) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entertainment begins at 11 a.m. with free refreshments served at noon. Come and join us for a showcase of talents, demonstrations by our senior folks! For more information, call 586-4944. Rain date is Saturday, June 2.
