THE ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION...

Atlanta Rhythm Section will bring its familiar rock 'n' roll to Crossroads Friday, April 7, at 9 p.m. This year is the group's 29th. The band celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1996 with the release of a special album featuring three new songs and hits from the group's previous 11 albums. Tickets are available at In Your Ear, 586-6404, or Crossroads, 631-3322, and are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Reserved and priority seating is available at $25 and $30.

FIRST CITIZENS BANK...

will dedicate its new Cherokee Crossing branch Monday, April 3, during a 2 p.m. ceremony. The new bank is located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation on U.S. 441 S. First Citizens is the only commercial bank located on the reservation. Its main office, on U.S. 441 N., has been open since 1986. The Cherokee Crossing branch has been open since Feb. 7.

"The partnership between First Citizens and the Cherokee community has been a good match for 14 years," said Kevin Wells, the bank's area vice president. "The dedication of our new office represents a continuation of this partnership and our ongoing commitment to our customers."


IT'S TIME...

to grab that cowboy hat and dust off those boots for the Wrangler Pro Bull Riding Tour, coming to Western Carolina University Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1. The Western event will take place at the Ramsey Center at 8 p.m. on both evenings. Advanced tickets are $11 for adults, $6 for children 7 and younger. Tickets purchased at the door will be $13 for adults, $8 for children. For more information, call 227-7677.


LOCAL BAND...

One Spot Left, will perform at Crossroads Saturday, April 8, at 10 p.m. The group plays both classic and contemporary rock and features Jerry Mason of Sylva, Nick White of Whittier and George Brown and Mike Sanford of Bryson City. The band has been together for more than 20 years and has played Crossroads in the past to "rave reviews," according to Mason. Tickets are $5 at the door.


SPORTS PHYSICALS...

will be given at Fairview's student health center Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, April 3, 4 and 6, for a $20 fee. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 586-0461. A history form must be completed and signed by the parent before the physical can be performed.


ALMOND TWIRLERS...

has begun a new Western A-1 square dance class that meets every first and third Thursday at 8 p.m. at the old Whittier school. The group will host an all plus dance tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. For more information, call Pam at 497-6505.


JOHN WINTERMEIER...

has joined Smith Insurance Services in Sylva. Wintermeier has 20 years experience in life and health insurance. He and his wife, Yvonne, live in Whittier. Wintermeier's integrity and experience make him a welcome addition to the Smith staff, said Carroll Smith, agency president.


DOROTHY COWAN...

granddaughter of Sylva residents Lloyd and Lib Cowan and John Chapman and the late Dorothy Chapman, has been selected to represent this country as an exchange student and will spend a semester in New Zealand. The daughter of Martha Chapman of Albemarle and the late Gary Cowan, Dorothy will attend Napier Girls High while living with a family in Napier, New Zealand. She will return to Albermarle in July.


DURING THE MONTH...

of April the Community Service Work Program, in cooperation with Gov. Jim Hunt's "Clean NC 2000," will focus on cleaning litter from highways. The program works in conjunction with the Department of Transportation and other community organizations to provide supervision for offenders who have been court-ordered to complete community service hours. All appropriate offenders will be assigned to roadside litter pickup during April. For additional information, contact the community service office at 586-7558.
