Mustang golf team shows improvement in two meets
Smoky Mountain's golf team showed improvement in two matches last week, according to Coach Stacy Buchanan.

The Mustangs finished second last Thursday at Lake Junaluska. Pisgah came out on top at 148 followed by SM (152) and Tuscola (161).

Dan White of the Mustangs tied with Pisgah's Aaron Hendrix and Brandon Templeton for medalist honors with a 36.

Ryan Stiens was second for SM at 38 with Ethan Mechling and Zeke Cooper both at 39.

The last time the Mustangs faced Pisgah, they shot 174 to the Bears' 151.

On March 7 at Cherokee Hills, Murphy defeated SM 337-346 in an 18-hole match. Mechling led SM with an 84. Casey Jennings shot 86 while Cooper and Stiens both had 88s.

Murphy's Matt Cook was the medalist with a 72.

"Ryan has been playing well for us," Buchanan said. "He's been a pleasant surprise."
