Obituary InformationThe Sylva Herald prints obituaries free of charge as a service to readers. When possible, obituaries should be sent to the Herald from the funeral home. Information received will be placed in our standard obituary format. We publish names of the deceased's spouse, parents, grandparents, siblings and children; we also include the number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among those we do not include are in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, special friends, ex-spouses and pets. Exception: We will include the relative if they are the only survivor or link to Jackson County. A brief history of the deceased is included. We include information on their employment, as well as professional, civic, community and religious affiliations. We omit personal tributes and poems. If you would like to publish an obituary in another format, you may run the announcement as a paid advertisement. The cost is $50, without a picture, and $60 with a picture. In the event a paid option is selected, an edited obituary will also be published and included in our online edition. Obituaries must be received by 2 p.m. Tuesday to run in that week's edition. |
