Brotherton wins meet

Smoky Mountain’s Travis Brotherton won a cross country meet Sept. 18 at Brevard.

His time of 16:57 allowed him to come out on top in the field that drew 188 runners.

Completing the top five for the Mustangs were: Brendan Ferguson, 96th, 21:17; Sebastian Heinrich, 98th, 21:29; Will Cowan, 100th, 21:33; and Nick Cox, 143rd, 23:42.

Roberson won the meet with SM 13th among 18 teams.

Greta Bates was the top finisher for the Lady Mustangs as she was 55th in 23:52. Completing the top five were: Brittany Burns, 112th, 28:15; 113th, Justin Mathis, 28:16; Hanna Tarasenko, 125th, 30:21; and Alice Sardinia, 138th, 33:06.

The women’s meet had 144 runners. Roberson came on top with SM 16th among 17 teams.

“Overall we ran a fairly good race,” Coach Lawson Hopper said. “Travis ran well.”

He said the last few meets will be devoted to preparing for the Mountain Athletic Conference set for Oct. 16 at North Buncombe.
