Back then
After publishing the popular “Then and Now” feature on a weekly basis for more than a year, The Sylva Herald has altered the format most weeks to publish interesting but unidentified file photos, like the one take above at a 1950s-era beauty shop. The only information we have is an inscription stamped on the back of the picture that reads “Please credit photo to John Edwards.” Anyone with information about this undated photo, is asked to call Lynn Hotaling at 586-2611, ext. 206, or send an e-mail to lynn@thesylvaherald.com. Any information we obtain will be added with the photo to The Herald’s online archives and included in “Things & Stuff.” The Herald will continue a “Then and Now” at least once a month. Readers who have photos taken in Jackson County that are at least 25 years old and include a recognizable feature (such as an existing building, highway, mountaintop or ridgeline) are invited to submit them for use in “Then and Now.” Photos can be dropped off or mailed to the newspaper office. As a convenience to those who would prefer not to let their cherished photos out of their sight, Herald photographer Nick Breedlove will scan photos Tuesday and Wedesday mornings between 10 and 11 a.m. For one more week, Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 12 and 13, he will also scan readers’ Christmas photos for inclusion in the newspaper’s holiday photo gallery, which will be published Dec. 21. Those with questions about potential “Then and Now” (or Christmas) photos may contact Breedlove at 586-2611, ext. 310, or nick@thesylvaherald.com. |
