Sylva’s leaders begin planning for $3.5 million - Sylva leaders spent an Oct. 19 board retreat discussing how to best use the $3.5 million they will soon receive from the state’s Clean Water Management Trust Fund. Airport leaders delay member nomination - Though they still have one vacant seat at their table, local airport officials will hold off submitting nominees to county commissioners. That decision came during the Jackson County Airport Authority’s regular Oct. 17 session. While statutes require that airport leaders suggest two names to county commissioners, who then choose one of those to be appointed, Authority members decided to wait and submit those names until three new members join the Board....

It’s time to set clocks, watches back an hour - It’s time to pick up that hour of sleep lost last spring when Eastern Standard Time returns this weekend. The official time to “fall back” is 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. However, it is suggested that clocks and watches be set back an hour before going to bed Saturday night to be on time Sunday. 102606bridgeparkprojecttBridge Park festival to be Saturday - Sylva officials and community organizers met Tuesday at the site of the planned Bridge Park, which will be located on a portion of the town’s Railroad Avenue parking lot. Conceived as a linear park to connect Main Street with Poteet Park and the foot bridge town officials plan to construct across Scotts Creek, the Bridge Park Project has received broad support, including endorsements from Sylva’s town board and the Downtown Sylva Association.
