The pigs were a 4-H project by Joanne Bryson of Cullowhee (then Joanne Brown), who is pictured in the center behind the two hogs. The photo was taken at her parents' home in Tuckasegee, which was located across the river from the Brinkley Farm. Her parents, the late J.E. and Fannie Middleton Brown are also pictured and are in the back row. The photo was published in the Sept. 9, 1954, edition of The Sylva Herald. Others in the photo include, from left, students Jessie Coggins and Clarence "Tunce" Taylor; unknown student; Cullowhee High agriculture teacher Fred Shelton; extension agents Paul Gibson and Allman Brawley; and students A.J. Ashe, Edwin Saunders, Darrell "Fessor" Millsaps and Morris Monteith. Others, including Lee and Nancy Porter of Brevard and Joyce Bryson Crowder of Cullowhee knew Jessie Coggins, Wendell Matthews, Kent Taylor, and Darrell "Fessor" Millsaps. Identification help came from JoAnn Brown Bryson, Danny Fisher, Deeanne Gibson Roles, Carolyn Robison, Dorris Beck, Claude Dills, Joyce Bryson Crowder and Lee and Nancy Porter.
