Faye Pressley
Faye B. Pressley, 53, of Bee Tree Road, Glenville, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, after a period of declining health.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Hamburg Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
A memorial service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cashiers.
A daughter of the late Lee and Ollie Mae Butler, she was the business manager and administrator of Summit Charter School in Cashiers since its inception in 1996.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Dale and Hiram Leonard Butler.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Robert Pressley of the home; two sons, Jody Pressley and Cory Pressley, both of Glenville; one brother, Richard Dills, of Sun City, Ariz.; and four sisters, Dianne Pressley of Candler and Brenda Bryson, Sandra Watson and Kaye Logan, all of Cashiers.

Janet Becker
Janet Gibson Becker, 55, of Silver Spring, Md., died unexpectedly Sunday, October 1, 2006, as the result of a cerebral aneurysm at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 5) at Colesville Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring, of which she was a member. Burial will follow in Silver Spring.
She was born in Sylva on Sept. 29, 1951, to the late Paul and Louise Edwards Gibson.
She graduated from Sylva-Webster High School in 1969 and received degrees from Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was an acquisitions librarian with the Montgomery County (Md.) Public Library.
Surviving are her husband, Perry J. Becker; two daughters, Lauren E. Becker of Pittsburgh and Caroline C. Becker of Silver Spring; and one sister, Deanne Gibson-Roles of Franklin.

Debra Lambert
Debra Louise Lambert, 47, of Cherokee’s Birdtown community, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, after a long battle with cancer.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Cherokee Baptist Church, with the Rev. Percy Cunningham officiating.
Burial followed at Tranquility Ridge Cemetery in Birdtown. Pallbearers were David Booth, Dennis Coons, Ray Rose, Teddy Rose, Pete Long and Brian Carter. Honorary pallbearers were Don Rose, Bill Booth, Larry Johnson, Willie Carter, George Lambert and Sam Lambert.
She graduated from Southwestern Community College in 1993 with a registered nursing degree and worked at Harris Regional Hospital, Cherokee Hospital and Cherokee Home Health.
Surviving are her parents, Joseph G. Lambert, Jr. and Alice Rose Lambert; two children, Lindsay Gammon and Gabriel Simcox; and two brothers, Douglas A. Lambert and Joseph R. “Joey” Lambert.

Barney Rice
Barney A. Rice, 103, of Heady Mountain Road, Cashiers, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Fidelia Eckerd Living Center.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Heady Mountain Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Johnny Norris and Berliss Powell officiated.
Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Audie Franks, Joe Rice, Wayne Rice, Mitchell Rice, Brad Rice and Maverick Riddle.
A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Augusta Crowe Rice. He was a retired farmer and beekeeper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Kelly Rice, who died Aug. 14, 1994; three sons, Ray Rice, Marvin Rice and Ford Rice; three sisters, Lily R. Bradley, Dora R. Burrell, and Cora R. Bradley; four brothers, Div Rice, Lemmy Rice, Chris Rice and Frank Rice.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Riddle of Cashiers and Ellamae Franks of Sapphire; three sons, Doyle Rice of Cashiers, Oliver Rice of Clayton, Ga., and Freeman Rice of Franklin; 23 grandchildren and several great- and great-great grandchildren.

Bonnie Watkins
Bonnie Watkins, 93, of Garland St., Waynesville, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews, with the Rev. Homer Wilson officiating.
Burial followed in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenny Ball, Aaron Wheeler, Chuck Rowland, Jimmy Rowland, Michael Rowland and Kevin Rowland.
A native of Copperhill, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Tom and Effie Thomas Goff.
She had lived in Andrews, Jackson County and Waynesville and was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and gardener.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Rowland, who died in 1938; her second husband, Frank Watkins, who died in 1960; three brothers; four sisters; and one grandson.
Surviving are three daughters, Birdie Hensley of Whittier, Lorene Rowland of Sylva and Frankie Ball of Waynesville; one son, Gene Rowland of Barberton, Ohio; one sister, Beulah Guidotti of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one half-brother, James Harper of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Nancy Dykes
Nancy Jane Parris Dykes, 70, of Sylva, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2006.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Holden officiating. Burial followed in Addie Cemetery.
A daughter of the late Buford Parris and Kathleen Jones Parris, she enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Bolton of Athens, Ala.; two sons, Lynn Dillard of Florence, Ala., and Mark Dillard of Bluff City, Tenn.; two brothers, Bud Parris of Eureka, Calif., and Jack Parris of Sylva; two sisters, Linda Smiley of Maggie Valley and Mary Parris of Nashville; and four granddaughters.
