LOWE’S WILL OPEN its Sylva store on Monday, Aug. 28. The store’s grand opening festivities will start Friday, Sept. 1, and continue throughout the weekend.

WEBSTER BAPTIST CHURCH plans a “Rally on the Lawn” this Sunday, Aug. 27. Events will start at 5 p.m. with a meal and fellowship time, which will be followed by a music and worship service at 6 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

ELLEN WARD, granddaughter of Whittier residents Mary and Chuck Brogan and Roy and Anne Ward, was recognized by KGLA Publications for “outstanding achievement” and is honored in Who’s Who Among Middle School Students 2005-2006 Edition. Ellen, an eighth-grader at Swain Middle School, is the daughter of Rory and Marianne Ward of Bryson City.
Small Wonders Child Care has received four-star ratings the past two years. Owners Allison and Brian Marr, above, operate two local centers, employ 14 people and educate around 56 children on a daily basis. Allison is the daughter of James Dukes, a former Sylva Herald graphics and pre-press technician.
