Waynesville takes tri-meet over Jackson, Transylvania

Waynesville’s swim team was the winner in a tri-meet with Jackson and Transylvania counties held July 13.

Waynesville compiled 465 points to 326 for Transylvania and 255 for Jackson. The Waynesville girls dominated with 318 points followed by Transylvania’s 130 and Jackson’s 115. On the boys’ side, Transylvania came out on top at 196 followed by Waynesville (147) and Jackson (140).

“We had two big swims in the 9-10 girls 100 freestyle event,” Coach Pete Hughes said. “Emily Starnes took 52 seconds off, and Rose-Helen Graham took 45 seconds off her time. Our 15-18 boys relay teams continue to dominate, winning at every meet this summer. The anchors to those teams are Mark Miller and Dan Thompson.
