Anglers should show respect

To the Editor:

The fishing season (catch and keep) is once again upon us, and once again we are overrun by people from all states. Remember the good old days when people actually asked permission to park and fish? No longer!

For those of us who own riverfront property, it seems to be a loosing battle. We have paid to have the banks grassed, stone placed where banks are breaking off, and waterways cleared that enter the river. We have been repayed by people dragging rafts and boats across our property, people stealing the rocks, people running, people leaving trash, and even people taking a pee in front of our house, in front of children, in broad daylight. We have gone so far as to post our property and even try to close access. It does no good whatsoever. People read the signs, give you a dirty look, and go right on in the water. If our game wardens would spend a little more time keeping these people off of private property and out of the middle of our highways we would all be a lot safer.

Also, if our so called good tourists and community member wanna-bes would show some respect for others and their property that they themselves expect, things would be a lot better. You can go to many beaches now and see no public access and private drive signs. Well, Jackson County is not the playground of the rich and not so famous. Show a little regard for our waterways and the people who try to protect them, before there are no more waterways to go to. Use rest rooms, trash cans, and public parking lots and public access points; not our highways, river banks and property that does not belong to you. You expect respect, show some.
