‘Thomas’ arrives in Dillsboro

072706thomasthetrain
Kids from Cherokee’s Dora Reed Tribal Child Care Center were on hand in Dillsboro Friday (July 21) when Thomas the Tank Engine arrived in town. Chief Michell Hicks joined more than 152 children and teachers for a ride on the famous blue train. Great Smoky Mountains Railroad donated the cost of the trip for the children and their chaperones. This year’s “Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine” festivities will continue in Dillsboro through Sunday, July 30. Rides depart every 45 minutes – rain or shine – from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Tickets are available by calling toll-free 1-872-4681, or visiting the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Web site at www.gsmr.com. – Herald photo by Ginger Roberson
