CITY LIGHTS BOOKSTORE will host a children’s pirate party on Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. in celebration of “Pirateology” and other summer pirate books. Costumes are welcome. For more information, please call Jenifer Ross at City Lights 586-9499.



REMAX MOUNTAIN 1ST REALTY in Sylva is now a designated Children’s Miracle Network Office and donates a portion of every transaction to the CMN to help kids, according to Mountain 1st owner/broker Renee Lewis.


TRIPLE THREAT PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY will hold open registration Monday-Thursday, July 24-27, and Monday-Thursday, Aug. 28-31, from 5 until 8 p.m. The academy offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, musical theater, and much more for ages 3 to adult. Classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5. Call 586-4410 for more information.


HIGH HAMPTON INN has opened its Hampton Health Club, a 5,500-square-foot spa and fitness facility for guests and members. The rustic resort, currently in its 84th season, recently unveiled its state-of-the-art fitness and spa facility. It includes an 800-square-foot multi-use room for aerobics, Pilates, yoga, and stretching; state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment with personal televisions; free weights and resistance training; and a core training area. Both group classes and personal training are offered. Men’s and women’s locker rooms include changing rooms with steam and regular showers. The club’s health bar serves smoothies, fruits, nutrition bars, and other fitness-conscious snacks. The club offers outdoor activities for younger guests including basketball; a playground; and “The Beanstalk,” an eight-sided, 28-foot climbing tower for both kids and adults. BILL HENRY of Fortuna, Calif., would like to correspond with Jackson County residents who are descended from his grandparents, Cornelious A. Henry (1852-1921) and Mary M. Dorsey (1854-1950), who lived most of their lives in Sylva. Bill, whose full name is William Dallas Henry would also like to exchange information with any of the descendants of Alexander Henry (1849-1939) or Artie Hooper/Henry (1854-1932).
