Jackson County’s swim team defeats Transylvania, Graham
The Jackson County swim team came out on top in a home tri-meet July 6 against teams from Transylvania County and Graham County.
Jackson compiled 382 points to 365 for Transylvania and 198 for Graham. The Jackson girls had 210 points followed by Transylvania with 164 and Graham with 107. On the boys’ side, Transylvania was the leader with 201 points followed by Jackson with 172 and Graham with 91.
Swim teams from Transylvania and Graham counties were in Sylva for a tri-meet with the Jackson County swim team July 6. Rose-Helen Graham (middle) from Jackson had a good start in the 50-yard freestyle for 9-10 year old girls. Graham placed first and Cassie Kuehn (left) placed fourth. Other local swimmers in the event were Madalynn Price and Samantha Teague.
“Wow, we rule!” Coach Pete Hughes said. “We had a fantastic night even with two of our high-scoring swimmers away at camp. We had seven swimmers in the individual medley events. Five of them won, and two of them placed second. That just shows you how strong our swimmers are. Sophie Chamberlin and Tessa Davis swam the IM for the first time and scored first and second, respectively, in the 8 and under girls race and earned all-star times too. Every one of our relay teams placed first. I was so proud of them.”
