Five Little League teams make district

Five of Jackson County’s seven Little League baseball and softball all-stars teams emerged from West Area tournaments to reach District 5 tourneys, according to Kyle Baldwin, Little League president.

“The teams all performed real well,” he said. “Anytime five teams are involved in the district playoffs you’ve done well. You normally start off with 16 to 18 teams so to have five make it that far is a pretty good showing.”

Leading the way were the baseball teams for the 9-year-olds and the 11-year-olds. They both finished third in the district.

Coming in fourth at the district level on the baseball side were the 9-10-year-olds and the 11-12-year-olds.

The 9-10-year-old softball team also placed fourth in the district.

The only teams not making it out of the area tournament were the 13-14-year-old baseball and 11-12-year-old softball squads.

“Last year three teams went to the state tournament, but that’s not going to happen every year,” Baldwin said. “It’s a big thing just to win a District 5 championship.”
