Deputies make cocaine bust during routine traffic stop

A routine traffic stop the morning of June 29, turned into a drug bust.

Robert Joseph Corbin, 49, of Oakwood Lane, Sylva, was stopped near the intersection of Mineral Springs Road and U.S. 23/74.

Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest for trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle to keep controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule II controlled substances, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and possession of a radar detection device in a commercial motor vehicle.

He was placed under a bond of $20,000 which was posted the next morning.

Corbin was operating a 2001 Western Star dump truck which has been seized pending court.

Deputies were assisted by an agent from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and members of the Asheville Police Department’s Drug Suppression Unit and their Narcotics Investigations Unit.
