Christmas reading

"What else would a Pooh Bear want for Christmas than a pot of honey?" Maranda Bradley reads to 2-year-old Justina Wood, daughter of Susan Taylor of Whittier. The two were helping celebrate the season at a holiday party Monday night at the Family Resource Center.

Bradley, a junior at Smoky Mountain High School, graduated Dec. 18 from the FRC's youth leadership program called "Caring Citizens are Cool in the 21st Century."

A component of the pilot program is community service. Bradley has helped an adult learn to read and is now working with youth. During the celebration, each of the younger children received new holiday books, compliments of the county's Smart Start program.
