Ready to float for New Century Scholars

Ducks -Herald photo by Rose Hooper Tucker Duck, along with Cullowhee Valley School students, from left, Dustin Nicholson, Hannah Allison, Katie Crisp, Nikki Butts, sign holder Andrew Queen, Becky Phillips, Paige Roberson and Kevin Bleil display some of the rubber ducks they've been numbering in preparation for the Ducks on the Tuck Saturday, April 28, a part of the Greening Up the Mountains festival in downtown Sylva. These students are a mix of student council members, who initiated the project, and New Century Scholars, who will benefit from the
program. Ducks on the Tuck, brainchild of CVS Student Council President Crisp, could raise $15,000 if each of the 3,000 ducks is sold for $5; then, 30 New Century Scholars would receive scholarships. Ducks can be purchased at Cullowhee Valley, Southwestern Community College, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and various local businesses.
